Tisa Futch is a National Board Certified teacher with 32 years experience as a middle school math educator. Tisa has worked in several school districts, most recently Henderson County She taught in Polk County and Asheville City Schools, as well. Tisa is especially proud of her ability to work with all students especially ESL and AIG. Her passion for mathematics education includes differentiation, rigor for all, vertical alignment, and discourse in the classroom.


Tisa has worked on several state initiatives. She participated in NCDPI’s revision of mathematics standards as well as led professional development to facilitate the transition to the new standards. Additionally, Tisa teamed with other leading AIG specialists in the state to quickly create virtual options to enrich our gifted students during Covid protocols. As a member of the North Carolina Collaborative for Mathematical Learning (NC2ML), Tisa collaborated on the instructional framework to ease the implementation of standards into the classroom. She continues to work with NC2ML as a member of the co-design team to build a common vision of quality mathematics education in NC.


As a math AIG Specialist, Tisa coached teachers on ways to incorporate rigorous tasks which allowed for students to engage in mathematical discourse. She engaged students in Writing about Mathematics. She also facilitated vertical professional learning communities to create common language and problem solving strategies throughout the school. Tisa created and implemented a curriculum for Henderson County Summer STEM camps.
